With Crea Chalk Paint you can achieve various aesthetic effects, depending on how it is applied.
Vintage effect on new wood:
- Sand it down lightly to remove any dirt and imperfections that may generate unwanted effects on the finish. Crea Chalk Paint is easy to use on softwoods such as pine, fir, mukali or poplar. It can be applied to harder woods but may deteriorate very quickly if the wood is not perfectly treated.
- Use a damp cloth to remove any dust created when sanding.
- Apply a coat of undiluted Crea Chalk Paint, but with a slightly wet brush, to help the paint spread out. If you would like to leave brush strokes for a more rustic effect, apply it by brush without stretching the material completely. Leave to dry for 2-3h. - If the paint is being applied to hard woods such as teak, apply two coats, diluting the first by 5-10 %, depending on the state of the wood.
- Once the paint is dry, use a green scouring pad or soft sandpaper to rub the entire substrate, exerting more pressure on corners and edges, apart from the points where you want to the natural base of the wood to be visible. This friction will create dust, which must be removed from the substrate.
- Once the aged effect is obtained, the coat can be left as it is for a soft and dusty texture, as long as the base is not likely to be subjected to continuous use that could deteriorate the finish, in which case we recommend the use of Crea Wax Chalk Paint for protection against wear and unfavourable environmental conditions.
For old painted wood, treat the substrate as shown in the Preparation and Support sectionDistressed effect:
2 colours, usually one dark and one light.
+ For new wood, prepare the base as mentioned above.
- Apply an even coat of the colour, covering the base completely. The brush strokes will add further decorative effects. Leave it to dry for 3-4h. You can then apply the darker paint. It is advisable to not apply this second coat homogeneously - to achieve a more aesthetic effect, spread the second coat more thinly, only completely covering the areas you want to, for example areas where are deep veins, edges, etc.
Leave it to dry for 4-6h.
-Once dry, use a scouring pad to gently rub the surface of the substrate, and some areas of the dark layer will show hints of the lighter colour layer. Rub until the desired effect is achieved. By exerting more pressure, it is possible to rub through to the base wood. This friction will create dust, which must be removed from the substrate.
- Once the distressed effect is obtained, the coat can be left as it is for a soft and dusty texture, as long as the base is not likely to be subjected to continuous use that could deteriorate the finish, in which case we recommend the use of Crea Wax Chalk Paint for protection against wear and unfavourable environmental conditions.
+Pre-painted substrates. Make sure that the paint is not brittle and likely to fall off. If it is an enamel, lacquer or satin paint, sand with 80-100 grit sandpaper to open the pores. If you wish, you may even out the surface to remove all physical imperfections using sandpaper with a larger grain. In the case of varnished surfaces, strip the varnish with Crea Quitapinturas and then sand to open the pores. Aggressive sanding is not recommended as this may remove the coloured layer.
- Use a damp cloth to remove any dust created when sanding.
- Apply a homogeneous layer of Crea Chalk Paint, and leave it to dry for 3-4h.
-Once it is dry, use a scouring pad or a soft sandpaper to gently rub the surface of the substrate, and some areas of the Crea Chalk Paint layer will show hints of the first paint layer. Rub until the desired effect is achieved. By exerting more pressure, it is possible to rub through to the base wood. This friction will create dust, which must be removed from the substrate.
- Once the desired effect is obtained, the coat can be left as it is for a soft and dusty texture, as long as the base is not likely to be subjected to continuous use that could deteriorate the finish, in which case we recommend the use of Crea Wax Chalk Paint for protection against wear and unfavourable environmental conditions.
Crea Chalk Paint can also be used as a decorative layer on pre-primedmetal substrates. Given the mineral nature of Crea Chalk Paint, it is recommended for items that are likely to be subject to constant friction or impacts. Chairs, tables, etc. can be protected with Crea Barniz Ultra water varnish.
To obtain smooth and homogeneous finishes on metal, you can use an airbrush, but since sagging makes it difficult to apply generous layers, it is recommended to apply several thin layers, respecting the drying times between each layer.
Once a few colours have been applied using Crea Chalk Paint, protecting them with Crea Wax Chalk paint may cause some of the material to come off and leave stains on the cloth. This is a normal side effect and will not necessarily create flaws.
Soporte Nuevo:
- Plaster, gesso or plasterboard:
1-Fill in any substrate defects with putty (look under BASE PREPARATION for the lines corresponding to powdered fillers and ready-made putty to make an appropriate choice).
2- Treat any mouldy substrates with Montolimp.
3- Sand down any imperfections or rough areas if you wish, bearing in mind that this may cause inconsistencies in the absorption of the product, with the finish displaying areas of differing hues or colours.
- Wood1-Soft woods should be sanded lightly to open the pores and remove any dirt or foreign elements.
2-Hard woods should be sanded thoroughly.
-Metal1-Degrease and clean the substrate thoroughly to remove all foreign elements, greases, oils and rust.
2-Apply two coats of white Crea Rustproof Primer, according to the indications on its Technical Data Sheet. Restauracion y Mantenimineto:
1. For painted substrates, the solidity and adherence of the paint must be checked, its nature must be assessed to avoid any possible incompatibilities, and any dust and dirt must be removed before repainting.
2. When applying Crea Chalk Paint, remove any old paint which is in poor condition or poorly adhered and likely to come off.
3. Shiny or varnished substrates should be sanded down thoroughly. In the case of glazes or satin paints, it is not necessary to strip completely, merely to open the pores. With varnished substrates, it is necessary to completely remove the varnish with Crea Paint remover and / or via sanding.
4. Fill in any substrate defects with putty (look under BASE PREPARATION for the lines corresponding to powdered fillers and ready-made putty to make an appropriate choice).
5. Treat any mouldy substrates with Montolimp.
