Why is priming essential for best results?

Primer is the base that is applied before painting on the chosen surface, and which serves to reinforce and equalise paint absorption. This is a preliminary process that guarantees an impeccable and lasting finish. Among its benefits the following stand out:

However, to achieve the best results, especially on surfaces that are difficult to anchor, it is necessary to apply the appropriate primer. There are two versions of Montoprimer, FIRST TOTAL. The primer for all types of enamels and synthetic paints, and MONTOPRIMER TOTAL ACQUA, specifically for water-based paint finishes like Ovaldine or Montonature. Both are antioxidants and easy to dry, but let's look at their uses and properties in detail.

As it is a universal, multi-adhesive, single-component primer for most surfaces, MONTOPRIMER TOTAL is suitable for outdoor and indoor use on construction surfaces such as plaster, cement, concrete, gypsum covered walls, plasterboard etcetera; but also on steel, galvanised iron, aluminium, copper, brass, PVC and wood. Because of all this, we can say that this is an essential product for any professional who is interested in using it.

Before applying the primer, it is important to prepare the surface that you're going to work on. So, you'll have to:

1. Ensure that the surface is free of foreign products, rust or residues.

2. Carry out a preliminary cleaning of the surface so that it is well degreased, dust-free and completely dry.

3. Sand gently to improve adhesion. So, if the surface is metal, it must be deoxidised with a gently sanding, degreasing and dusting before applying the primer; if it is PVC, it must be cleaned, gently sanded and dust removed; and if it is wood, dirt, resins and secretions must be removed from the surface, softly sanded in the direction of the grains and dust removed.

4. On existing surfaces with old paints of unknown origin, it is recommended to carry out a test to check the adherence, and if there is any doubt, remove them by stripping, sandblasting or by other means.

In this sense, we have to emphasise how important the quality of the preparation of the surface is, as well as the subsequent application of the primer and paint.

And once the pre-work is done, all that's left is to apply MONTOPRIMER TOTAL making sure to follow several pieces of advice:

oStir the product until perfectly homogeneous.

oApply as per instructions of the technical sheet depending on the chosen surface.

oDo not apply at high temperatures or on sun-exposed surfaces.

oMaintain good ventilation conditions during drying.

oDo not apply with a relative humidity above 80%, or at temperatures below 5ºC or above 35ºC.

oIt is advisable that for the surfaces of difficult or doubtful adhesion, a previous test should be carried out to ensure the correct behaviour of the product.
